Update on eIRB

 

The Penn eIRB System (eIRB) is targeted to replace HSERA as the IRB online submission system in February 2026.

 

The following interactive sessions below are planned to prepare for the eIRB launch. Faculty, research staff, fellows, and students are strongly encouraged to attend scheduled informational sessions OR review session recordings and written resources to ensure awareness of new policies and a smooth transition.

 

  • Townhalls – September 2025
    • Communication of critical information to users
    • No registration required. 
    • Townhall information is available on the IRB Calendar.

 

  • eIRB Live Demonstrations – October 2025
    • How to use eIRB
    • Review new features
    • Sessions are split into two parts. There are two sessions each for Parts 1 and 2.
    • Registration is required. You can find the registration links on the IRB Calendar.
    • Refresher Demos will take place in January 2026.

 

  • User Acceptance Testing – November 2025
    • Hands-On learning and identifying system bugs
    • This session is volunteer based – you must sign up HERE.
    • Deadline to sign up is September 30th.

 

The eIRB webpage (https://irb.upenn.edu/eIRB) is a central hub for communications about launch, and will be updated with session recordings.
